WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) and will consider adopting sanitation rates for the next five years, starting in 2025.

Public Works Director Ki Bealey said the annual increase is approximately 4.75 percent per year. This amounts to an increase of $1.22 per month for the 96-gallon residential garbage service.

Bealey explained the rate needs to be adjusted to keep up with inflation and other cost increases, plus provide funding for operations and maintenance.

The council will also consider approving a $127,500 purchase of property at 1212 W. Moore St., located directly south of the Sleep Center. According to city staff, the property has been a problem for code enforcement as it is frequently in need of clean up. In the future, the property could be used to expand the Sleep Center.
