COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council meets tonight (Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m. for a closed executive session. On the agenda for the regular session, which begins at 7 p.m., council members will consider a contract for a hotel market feasibility study with Core Distinction Group, a Wisconsin-based hotel consultant company.

Through extensive hotel recruitment efforts by City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello he says he has learned that post-COVID all hotel chains are requiring communities to perform market studies so that they can round up investors to make new hotel projects happen.

Representatives from Cobblestone, Intercontinental, and Choice Hotels have all recommended Core Distinction Group to do this work for College Place. The firm will charge the city $7,500 to do the initial work. If initial data shows College Place can support a hotel, the firm will complete the study and assist in marketing efforts to the hoteliers for an additional $7,500 for a total of $15,000.

Also on the agenda, council members will consider a contract not to exceed $15,500 with Capital Asset and Pavement Services for pavement rating inventory report services, which consists of a module to keep track of existing and historical pavement condition data and a decision-making process to help choose the most cost-effective maintenance strategies. This same company has provided such work for the cities of Kennewick, Pendleton, Richland, and West Richland. To help with costs, Walla Walla Valley Blue Zones will pay $6,000.

The meeting will be in the council chamber of College Place City Hall. It is also accessible via Zoom. The meeting ID number is 822 3001 9949.
