Council to consider cost overruns, grants, and security cameras

COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council will meet both in person and electronically tonight at 7 p.m. for its regular city council meeting. On the agenda, council members will consider a motion to approve a change order for cost overruns for the 4Bikes Project on Fourth Street.
According to city staff, engineers with Anderson Perry miscalculated some quantities during estimating, plus other costs came up as minor problems had to be addressed during the project. The remaining unapproved cost overrun is $56,520.70.
The project, which is now complete, extended the cycle track on Fourth Street and made sidewalk improvements from Davis Street to College Avenue. New decorative lighting was also installed along Fourth Street from Academy Way to College Avenue.
The council will also consider two separate resolutions to accept grants from T-Mobile and the Washington State Department of Commerce to be used on different portions of the Lions Park improvement project. The T-Mobile grant is for $42,328 and will cover the installation of an electrical system to assist the farmers market, movies at the park, and holiday events at Lions Park. T-Mobile staff will present the grant at 4 p.m. during the Farmers Market on Thursday. The second grant, totaling $35,000, from the Washington State Department of Commerce will go towards a construction of a gazebo to support entertainment and community events at Lions Park.
Also on the agenda, the council will consider accepting a $20,000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to help cover the acquisition and implementation of security cameras at the intersection of Southeast Meadowbrook Boulevard and Southeast Lamperti Street and Northeast C Street at the entrance to Home Depot, Banner Bank and Goodwill.
The cameras will be used to deter crime within the city. The security cameras record video on a loop and re-record over old footage. The video will only be pulled in the event of a crime or incident that needs to be investigated.
