WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council will hold a work session today (Monday) at 4 p.m. The agenda includes a presentation on the draft Walla Walla County Five-Year Homeless Housing Plan, a ballot proposition to create a Metropolitan Park District, and a review of the implementation status of the 2024 to 2028 strategic plan.
The Walla Walla County Department of Community Health (DCH) is starting to develop the 2025-2030 Homeless Housing Plan, which will guide decisions on funding and services for addressing homelessness. The plan must outline goals, strategies, performance measures, and timelines in line with state efforts to reduce homelessness.
DCH will also host two forums on the Homeless Housing Plan, with the first on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in Whitman College’s Olin Hall Auditorium and the second on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. at the Health Department, 314 W. Main St. These forums will mark the start of a public comment period for the draft plan.
The city council will discuss the proposition for the Metropolitan Park District, which aims to fund and improve parks and recreation. The Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Advisory Board supports placing this proposition at the $0.75/$1,000 levy rate on the February 10, 2026, ballot.
Lastly, the council will review the strategic plan’s progress, focusing on housing, youth activities, economic resilience, community health initiatives, and employee support. The work session will be available to view via Zoom and livestreamed on the city’s website.
