PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council is ready to hear the results of a committee meeting with network vehicle drivers and Elite Taxi to attempt to ensure they can work profitably, have some overlapping existence, and meet the transportation needs of Pendletonians. That item is listed under new business at tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) council meeting at 7 p.m.

The council will look at the results of talks that it is hoped will provide transportation services in the city without creating fatal competition with Elite Taxi, which is under contract with the city for subsidized and free public transportation.

After several revisions, the proposed referendum would basically mean Elite would operate in the daytime and network vehicle and independent drivers would operate at night. A detailed memorandum of the agreement is part of the agenda packet for the Tuesday meeting. The existing taxi ordinance would be replaced with a vehicles for hire ordinance.

This is on the agenda under New Business. A public hearing would be required before a new ordinance can be adopted. The meeting can be attended in person. It is also available via Zoom. The meeting ID is 848 8298 2122 and the pass code is 248854.
