PENDLETON โ€“ Improving communication with the public is the newest goal to be set by the Pendleton City Council and President McKennon McDonald is one of the members of a subcommittee exploring ways to improve communication other than just inviting people to attend council meetings.

โ€œIf anything, COVID has taught us that we need to provide more opportunities for people to be part of the conversation without actually being in the same room as you,โ€ she said.

McDonald said the committee has discussed hiring or contracting with someone with expertise in communication and social media, but has not made a decision to recommend that step.

โ€œIt continues to be a major focus, and Iโ€™m really excited that it has gained the traction that it has, because I think weโ€™re moving continually in that positive direction,โ€ she said. โ€œWe want to be responsive to the citizens because we know weโ€™re spending taxpayer money so weโ€™re trying to figure out how we can do it conservatively within the budget.โ€
