HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council has begun the discussion of how an estimated $3.6 million in American Rescue Plan stimulus funding should be used. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said the money will come in two payments, and the funds don’t need to be spent until the end of 2024.

“Our approach in utilizing these funds is to try and maximize the use of those dollars by using them to match other potential funding sources,” he said. “If we will be receiving about $3.6 million dollars, it’s our hope that we should leverage at least $7.2 million for the projects.”

The city council also passed a 20-year master plan for the sanitary sewer collection system. A public hearing on the proposed senior citizen cluster housing complex had originally been scheduled for this meeting, but it has been postponed until May 24.
