HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council has approved hiring Griffin Construction of The Dalles to demolish the old city hall and build a new one. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said the timeline will be about 18-24 months once work has begun.
“The cost of the project is $8,666,000,” Morgan said. “It’s important to keep in mind that we added several other components to that project.”
The additions will come from other revenue streams. One of the projects makes sense since the city will be doing water and sewer work around the new building and much of the water and sewer lines in that area are 80 to 90 years old.
“We took the opportunity to just do a larger, about two and a half block excavation and reconstruction in the alleyway so that we just get in and get updated while everything’s torn up,” Morgan said.
The other project is a redesign of the parking lot across the street from city hall. Morgan said that work will be covered by the city’s urban renewal district funds.
