HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council meets this evening at 7 at the Hermiston Community Center. A work session will begin at 6 p.m. as council members hear updates from Hermiston Energy Services and Sanitary Disposal, Inc.

The council will initiate annexation proceedings for 7.41 acres of land on the south side of East View Drive, east of Southeast Ninth Street. Knutzen Engineering is asking for a multi-structure residential zone for the property, with plans to create a 35-lot residential subdivision. If the council approves moving forward, public hearings will be scheduled before the Hermiston Planning Commission on Nov. 10 and before the council on Nov. 22.

City staff has been working on updating Hermiston’s ordinances. At this meeting, the council will consider changes to the traffic rules, including establishing a process for parade permits. If adopted, the permit applications will need to be approved by the police chief.  Other ordinance changes before the council include structural maintenance regulations and nuisances.

The meeting at the Hermiston Community Center includes some space for the public, wearing face coverings, to attend. The work session and meeting are also streamed live on Hermiston’s YouTube channel.
