HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council held a public hearing and approved a request from the Horizon Project that the city annex a little over an acre at 80 N.E. Tracey Lane at its meeting this week. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said that projects like the one proposed has been a council goal for several years.
“It’s really kind of an all-encompassing supportive housing development with some affordable housing combined with assisted services for folks with intellectual disabilities for long-term living,” he said.
Also at the Monday meeting, the council approved a resolution that would see the expansion of the Hermiston Enterprise Zone, which also must be approved by the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners and the Port of Umatilla.
The council also approved a resolution that establishes the Economic Development Enterprise Incentive Program. That program would offer the city’s biggest commercial users of electricity a rebate program with Hermiston Electric Services.
“Think of it as a bulk discount,” Morgan said of the rebate program. “If you go to the carpet store and you buy 10,000 square feet of carpet, they’re going to give you a discount. That’s basically what this program does.”
