WALLA WALLA – Due to increasingly dry and hot conditions, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Natural Resource Management officials are increasing restrictions at all USACE-managed lands along the lower Snake River, as well as the Columbia River down to McNary Lock and Dam.
Effective immediately, and until further notice, all open flame is prohibited, including charcoal. Propane cooking stoves are allowed in areas clear of flammable material for five feet in all directions and must be always attended while in use.
The USACE stated in a news release Wednesday these precautions have been set in place to ensure public safety and to provide the highest degree of protection to parks and natural resources.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources issued a similar order this week for all of its lands east of the Cascades.
