Corbie Fire update in Harney/Malheur County

Harney/Malheur County-Update as of 9:45am August 2, 2023-The Corbie Fire settled significantly overnight. Aerial mapping from this morning shows the burned area at approximately 1,141 acres. Today, firefighters will manage hot spots along the perimeter and within the interior, particularly under juniper trees and on the western flank. Please continue avoiding the area if at all possible – there will be many firefighting resources on Highway 78 for the next few days.

About the air traffic you may see or hear today over Burns/Hines – those aircraft are working on aerial weed treatments on approximately 100,000 acres in Harney County!

As of 10:00pm August 1, 2023-Fine fuels and dry conditions made for quick fire spread to the north and east this afternoon. The southern part of the fire is currently holding along Highway 78 and crews have made good progress on other containment lines. Overall size is estimated at 650 acres. 

Yesterday’s ground and air resources included 5 agency engines, 2 water tenders, 2 dozers, Crane RFPA, Fields/Andrews RFPA, Blue Mountain RFPA, 1 Type 2 Helitack crew, 4 Single Engine Air Tankers, 4 Large Air Tankers, Air Attack and Lead Planes. Firefighters plan to monitor conditions overnight. Additional resources will join the force tomorrow if needed. 

A 7-nautical mile Temporary Flight Restriction is in place in the fire area and there may be travel delays on Highway 78 near mile marker 60. Please avoid the entire area as much as possible.
