PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council has approved allowing rides for hire services to operate in the Round-Up City for at least the next five months. Elite Taxi contracts with the city to provide transit and dial-a-ride services, and the city will use the period to determine what impact, if any, the operation of companies like Uber would have on the taxi company.

“I believe we can find a way to have both,” City Manager Robb Corbett said. “Staff is going to work with everybody to do our best to make sure that’s what happens.”

Corbett says the city is dedicated to having its municipal ride services continue, but it’s also committed to providing services that are expected both by residents and visitors to Pendleton.

“We know that there’s a significant interest in Uber,” he said. “Uber and those cars for hire services are expected by people who come and visit our community, and it’s a service that many in our community want and have expressed that to our city council.”
