COLUMBIA BASIN – With the National Weather Service issuing an excessive heat warning through Friday, cooling centers are now open across the Columbia Basin.
In Oregon, Neighbor 2 Neighbor Pendleton, 715 SE Court Street, will be open daily through Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. In the winter months, this facility operates as the Pendleton Warming Station.
In Hermiston, residents needing to cool down are being directed to the Hermiston Public Library, 235 E. Gladys Avenue, which is open until 8 p.m. through Thursday and until 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library opens at 10 a.m. throughout the week.
In Washington, a cooling center has been activated at the former Umpqua Bank branch at 401 S. College Ave. in College Place. This cooling center will be open through Fri., July 29 from 1 to 6 p.m. Water and free Wi-Fi will be provided.
The Walla Walla Public Library, 238 E. Alder St., is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Dayton Memorial Library, 111 S. Third Street, is offering water along with movies to watch. They are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday, from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
