Cooking fire damages Kennewick apartments

KENNEWICK – The Kennewick Fire Department said Tuesday night’s fire at the Copper Ridge Apartments, 5501 West Hildebrand, was started by a cooking fire and contained by an automatic sprinkler system to one unit’s kitchen area.
Fire Chief Chad Michael said a total of three apartments sustained water damage from the sprinkler system and are temporarily uninhabitable.
No injuries to firefighters or occupants were reported. The cause appears to be a pot of oil that had caught on fire on the stove.
