LA GRANDE – (Information from the Cook Memorial Library) Libraries serve as local literature hubs, providing books, magazines and even some electronic formats to the community. Be it for entertainment, research or education, near enough anything a visitor would want can be found through their local library, so long as it’s printed on a page or burned to a CD. Unknown to some, however, the City of La Grande’s Cook Memorial Library has a growing collection of non-literary things on hand for public checkout. The “Library of Things” provides visitors with a mixture of items including cooking appliances, board games, scientific equipment and various activity kits, all of which can be borrowed like any library book. Emphasis is placed by the library on supporting a “sharing economy” to reduce waste and allow visitors to test potentially expensive items that they might be considering purchasing.

The full library of things is comprised of the following:

  • Edmund Scientific Astroscan Telescope
  • AmScope 40X-1000X 360-Degree Rotating Monocular Head Compound Microscope

Replacement costs may apply if a Thing is returned broken or with missing parts.” Additional information, including checkout details, can be found at Search Results – Cook Memorial Library – La Grande (eou.edu).
