HERMISTON – Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 is reminding the public of its annual controlled burn at Hermiston Butte in preparation for Fourth of July fireworks.
The burn will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 2.
“Burning of the butte and the surrounding vegetation improves defensible space for the adjacent structures and removes brush that contributes to the rapid spread of potential wildfires in the area,” UCFD No. 1 said in a statement. “It also reduces the strain on resources typically experienced around the Fourth of July holiday.”
Firefighters will maintain strict situational awareness and control measures to prevent unnecessary spread.
