BAKER COUNTY — The Baker County Fairgrounds will soon have its own dedicated space for small animal exhibits. It was recently passed with the Baker County Commission to add a small animal wing to the fairgrounds’ main exhibit hall, off the east end.
Project Manager Mark Johnson told our newsroom that the fairgrounds have needed a dedicated small animal exhibit area for decades, having to use tents or borrowed space. The new project will be constructed where the east end parking is now.
Johnson noted the project’s budget is just under $1.5 million and is funded in part by moneys from the state, dedicated to fairgrounds’ improvement efforts. In addition to housing small animal exhibits, he said there will be space for meetings and multipurpose activities in the new addition.
The project begins April 11th and construction will continue until October 3rd, unless completed sooner, according to Project Manager Johnson. This will likely affect east-end parking during the Baker County Fair in August, but additional parking is available at the National Guard parking lot, which has just been improved with new fencing and a sidewalk.
We’ll provide project updates as they are released.
