Construction mistakes addressed in Baker City’s Court Plaza

BAKER CITY — Some folks may be wondering why concrete that was laid recently is being removed from Court Plaza in Baker City. Officials with the city have issued a public statement, explaining that several items at the site require correction to comply with the City’s construction standards. This work is estimated to take around five weeks. Read the city’s full statement below:

The City of Baker City and Public Works would like to provide an update regarding the concrete work recently completed at Court Plaza.
The Court Plaza project is funded through a combination of grant funding and generous contributions from donors. As part of the City’s responsibility to ensure these funds are used appropriately, the recently completed work was reviewed for quality and compliance with project requirements.
Several items at the site were identified which require correction to bring the work into compliance with the City’s construction standards. To address these concerns, the affected areas are being removed and replaced.
We understand that removing newly installed concrete may raise questions. Correcting the work now is intended to ensure the community receives the quality project that grantors, donors, and residents have invested in.
We anticipate this work to take approximately five weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
