WALLA WALLA, Washington – The intersection of Howard Street and Bryant Avenue will be closed from Monday until sometime in October. A new bridge is being constructed. Nelson Construction Corporation of Walla Walla was awarded the contract in March. The work is estimated to cost a little more than $659,000.

The project will replace the existing load-restricted bridge. The intersection will be reconstructed with new asphalt, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk ramps, additional illumination and new water, sewer and stormwater utilities.

Detour routes will be in place. Emergency vehicles will not have access during the construction period.

The city of Walla Walla said the project is 100 percent locally funded. The money is coming from the real estate excise tax, transportation funding, along with transportation benefit district and infrastructure repair and replacement plan money.
