Congressman Bentz: Trucking regulations contribute to supply problems

JOHN DAY – United States Congressman Cliff Bentz was on KJDY’s Coffee Time yesterday. The topic of supply concerns came up, while ships holding many of consumers’ goods continue to sit in California ports. The Congressman brought up this food for thought on the subject:

“I wonder why we don’t hear more about the regulations that California has instituted against trucks? If you don’t have a ‘brand new’ truck that meets all of the environmental standards—guess what? You can’t drive into California.

There’s a limited number of trucks that can go to the port and pick stuff up.”

Congressman Bentz said what’s happening is the trucks that can operate in California are making back-and-forth trips to the border to offload the goods on to older trucks.
