Community Connection of Northeast Oregon offering free public transit to Thunder at the Peak

UNION – The Fourth of July is almost here, and so is America’s big 250! Like previous years, Union County residents can post up at Buffalo Peak Golf Course in Union for the Thunder at the Peak fireworks show. For anyone without a ride or that would rather not face the crucible that is a packed hillside parking lot on a holiday, Community Connection of Northeast Oregon (CCNO) is stepping up to provide free public Transit to Thunder at the Peak.

According to a recent post from CCNO, pickup begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Union County Senior Center in La Grande, 1504 North Albany Street. Dropoff begins at 7:00 p.m. at Buffalo Peak Golf Course, 1224, East Fulton Street, Union. Once in Union, another bus will run passengers up and down the hill to the event area until things are fully underway. This local shuttle can be boarded from the Union City Park or Old West Federal Credit Union.

Once the festivities are over, one bus will shuttle guests back to La Grande, and another will bring passengers back down the hill into Union. A special note from CCNO for La Grande residents planning to ride the bus out to Union reads:

“Seating is first-come, first-served so plan to arrive a little early! We are running TWO buses this year with room for up to 24 passengers plus 2 to 4 wheelchair or walker spaces depending on size.”

A few other things noted by CCNO include:

  • Rides are completely FREE!
  • Drinks are welcome but must have a screw-on lid, no open containers please
  • Bags and backpacks are fine as long as they fit on your lap or between your feet, not in the aisle or on the seat
