LA GRANDE – (Release from Community Connection of Northeast Oregon) Community Connection of Northeast Oregon (CCNO) will conduct the annual Point in Time (PIT) Count on January 28, 2026, to gather vital information about people experiencing homelessness across Union, Baker, Grant, and Wallowa counties. The PIT Count is a federally required, one-day effort that provides a snapshot of both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in communities throughout the United States. This data guides planning, funding, and service delivery for homelessness programs.

The PIT Count will take place at various locations and times throughout the day, coordinated by CCNO in collaboration with volunteers, service providers, and local partners. Specific locations and event times for each county will be shared on CCNO’s county-specific Facebook pages:

Union County: https://www.facebook.com/CCNOUnionCounty

Baker County: https://www.facebook.com/CCNOBakerCounty

Wallowa County: https://www.facebook.com/CCNOWallowaCounty

 • Grant County: https://www.facebook.com/CCNOGrantCounty

“We are proud to participate in this important national effort,” said Rebekah Martin, CCNO’s Energy & Homeless Programs Manager. “Accurate information about who is experiencing homelessness and where they are located helps ensure we can plan effectively and secure the resources needed to support housing stability for individuals and families throughout our region.”

About the PIT Count

The Point in Time Count is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of the continuum of care funding requirements for communities that receive federal monies to address homelessness. Each January, communities conduct the count on a single day, using surveys and outreach teams, to provide a snapshot of the number of people experiencing homelessness. The data helps inform public policy, resource allocation, and local planning efforts.

Participation Matters

Anyone experiencing homelessness, including those who may currently have temporary shelter or are “doubled up”, is encouraged to participate. Each response helps ensure that our communities are accurately counted and supported with appropriate services.
