The Advisory Committee for the Harney Basin Groundwater Study will meet on October 12 to discuss the key findings of the study. This meeting is open to the public. The meeting will provide an overview of the study findings and next steps, as well as discuss the Advisory Committee’s Key Study Takeaways from 2020.
The Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) and United States Geological Survey (USGS) began the study in late 2016 to better understand the groundwater system in the Harney Basin and to inform future water management in eastern Oregon. The study was published in April 2022.

A broader community engagement session is scheduled for November 3. This event will provide members of the community with a general overview of the study results and OWRD’s vision for improving the groundwater situation in the basin. the November 3 meeting will be held at the Harney Community Center and include dinner, presentations, and discussion with community members.
