PENDLETON – The McKay Creek Solutions Committee will continue to get permits to remove debris from the creek in Pendleton Community Park as long as necessary. However, Pendleton City Manager Robb Corbett, who is a member of the committee, says there must be a long term solution from the Bureau of Reclamation, not just stop gap measures.

“It’s been suggested that with global warming the weather patterns are changing, and so the methodology for when you release water needs to change too,” Corbett said.

Even with periodic debris removal, Corbett sees another flood in the future.

“It’s only a matter of time, in my opinion, that it would happen again if we don’t really take a hard look at this through analysis,” he said.

Corbett said another important element for long-term flood prevention would be for the Bureau of Reclamation’s equipment to be updated.
