WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners meets this coming Monday at 9:45 a.m. to consider revising the current policies for renting facilities at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds.

Fairgrounds Manager Greg Lybeck said revising the rental policies stems from an incident on June 8. According to the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office, several fights broke out during the private event which resulted in two people being stabbed. Gilberto Franciso Cuevas, 31, of California, was arrested on probable cause for first-degree assault and threats to kill. He recently entered a not-guilty plea, and his trial is scheduled for September 17.

Lybeck said the revisions are specifically in the areas of insurance, sales and service of alcohol and the time to end selling and serving alcohol, security, and what hours events must end.

If the revisions are approved, Lybeck said the benefits would be to ensure the safety of guests and the success of the event.
