WALLA WALLA COUNTY – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Monday a proposal by Sheriff Mark Crider to apply for a grant to support the investigation of denied firearm transactions.
The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs will reimburse agencies $300 each for every transaction investigated. Additionally, the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office can receive an extra $200 for applications that indicate a referral for charges has been made.
According to the proposal that Crider submitted to the commissioners, Walla Walla County currently has seven denied firearms transactions that would qualify for the grant. Crider said ultimately this will significantly enhance public safety in Walla Walla County and reduce the risk of violent crimes involving firearms.
