JOHN DAY – Grant County Commissioner John Rowell was on KJDY’s Coffee Time, talking about some of the things he’s been active with as a commissioner. He mentioned that he recently took a trip to the Murderer’s Creek area to check out a project underway with the South Fork Watershed Council. He said they’re looking to restore the watershed in part by using cut juniper trees:
“They’re using juniper barriers, and they’re trying to encourage the beavers to start populating those areas better. It looks like there’s plenty of feed to start beaver off in that area, and the idea is to raise the water level during the high-water season, [so] that the water can move out across the meadow and saturate it. Hopefully, it’ll hold water longer and keep cooler.”
