WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Rural Library District is partnering with the city of College Place to develop the new Lion’s Park Community Center on Southeast Larch Avenue.

The College Place Library will be on the second floor of the new community center, accessible by two bus lines and will be situated in a newly renovated park, suitable for outdoor programming and story times.

Plans will be refined this year by a steering committee and Kennewick-based Design West Architects. Key dates include demolishing the current building this summer and installing sidewalks along Southeast Eighth Street and adding rapid flashing beacons to crossings at Southeast Larch Avenue; plus starting construction on the new community center later this year, with a tentative opening in late 2026.

Funding includes a $2.5 million earmark from 16th District State Legislators, a $5 million earmark from U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) in fiscal years 2024 and 2025 Congressional directed spending, and $200,000 from Walla Walla County.
