COLLEGE PLACE โ€“ The College Place City Council meets tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. and will consider a motion to allow the fire department to purchase a new $72,000 self-contained breathing apparatus compressor.

College Place Fire Chief Dave Winter said the current compressor is 15 years old and has become unrepairable. He described this as a vital piece of equipment as it is used to fill the oxygen tanks firefighters wear when entering a burning structure.

Currently, Winter said the Walla Walla Fire Department and Walla Walla County Fire District No. Four have shown their generosity in filling CPFDโ€™s oxygen tanks.

โ€œThe unit we are purchasing is the same unit the city of Walla Walla researched and purchased this year,โ€ Winter said. โ€œThey recommended this unit.โ€
