COLLEGE PLACE – The city of College Place is seeking a new representative to join its city council following the resignation of long-term councilmember Loren Peterson, officials announced Thursday.
Peterson, who has served on the council since 2013, is stepping down from a term originally scheduled to run through Dec. 31, 2027. Mayor Norma L. Hernández praised Peterson’s tenure, citing his years of dedication and experience in the community.
“Our city council members are the heartbeat of College Place,” Hernández said in a statement. “If you have a passion for this city, want to be involved in setting public policy, and want to make a real difference, we need you at the table.”
The city will fill the vacancy by appointment. The selected individual will serve the remainder of the term through 2027. The seat will then be placed on the ballot during the 2027 municipal election for a full term.
To qualify, applicants must be registered voters and have resided within the College Place city limits for at least one year prior to the application date.
The application window is now open. Interested residents must submit a letter of interest, a resume, and a completed city questionnaire. Application materials are available on the city’s website and must be submitted to the City Clerk by 4 p.m. on Monday, May 4.
Submissions can be delivered to College Place City Hall at 625 S. College Ave. or sent via email to clerk@cpwa.us and officials noted that incomplete application packets will not be considered.
