COLLEGE PLACE – Discharge of fireworks normally permitted over the Fourth of July holiday within College Place city limits has been prohibited for 2021.
Mayor Norma Hernandez signed the temporary ban on fireworks Wednesday after the Washington State Department of Natural Resources designated Walla Walla County as extremely high wildfire danger. DNR has also prohibited administrative permit burns and burns allowed by state or local rule.
The National Weather Service has also issued an excessive heat warning for Walla Walla County through Sunday, July 4 at 8 p.m.
The order allows the College Place Police Department and/or the College Place Fire Department to enforce the temporary ban on discharging fireworks. Furthermore, enforcement is at the discretion of the police department and/or College Place Fire Chief who may take reasonable and necessary actions to implement the mayor’s order.
