College Place City Council to vote on 2027-2032 transportation plan

COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council will meet tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. for its regular meeting to consider the city’s updated Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for fiscal years 2027 through 2032.

The annual process is mandated by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Federal Department of Highways. Filing the six-year plan ensures local roadways remain eligible for crucial state and federal grant funding.

The council will first open a public hearing to give community members an opportunity to comment on the proposed transportation wish list. Following the hearing, the council is scheduled to take action on a resolution, officially adopting the updated six-year plan.

The TIP outlines planned infrastructure enhancements across four core categories: street corridor projects, chip sealing, block resurfacing, and pedestrian safety initiatives.

Several key infrastructure improvements are slated to kick off in 2027:

Street & Intersection Projects: Corridor reconstruction on SW Mojonnier Road (College to Bluvue Lane), construction of an intersection at College Avenue and a proposed East-West Road, new corridor construction on East-West Road (College to Teal), complete street improvements along Whitman Drive and SW Davis Avenue, and roundabout work at Whitman Drive behind Home Depot.

Safe Walk Sidewalks: Safe Routes to School initiatives for Davis Elementary and Sager Middle School, and completing the Whitman Drive Multiuse Path gap.

Resurfacing & Chip Sealing: Block resurfacing on SE Cotter Place, SW Fourth Street, and SE 10th Street, paired with extensive chip sealing across neighborhoods like SE Newgate Drive and SE Scenic View Drive.

Tonight’s meeting will be held at College Place City Hall, 625 S. College Ave. and will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel.
