COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council meets tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. for a work session and will discuss adopting a proposed police building analysis and register for a bond to cover the cost of the estimated $14 million facility.
Following an analysis, it is proposed to build a 19,000 square foot facility next to College Place High School. The building will have a training room that may be used to serve as a community room.
Chief Troy Tomaras is asking for the building project to be considered for the upcoming ballot in November 2024.
Currently, the College Place Police Department is working out of the city’s old annex building. The converted 4,000 square foot duplex was built in 1954 and Tomaras said the current building does not have adequate space for current staffing or storage, plus it does not meet ADA requirements.
An analysis was conducted by Designs West to study the need for a new police building and found the current space inadequate.
Tomorrow night’s workshop will be held at College Place City Hall, 625 S. College Ave., and streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel.
