WALLA WALLA COUNTY – Highway 730 remains closed in both directions between the Oregon state line and Wallula Junction due to falling rock and an unstable slope. The Washington State Department of Transportation closed the highway on Wednesday. There is no estimated time for reopening.
On Thursday, a geo-technical crew spent the afternoon examining the slope, then advised WSDOT what the next steps would be to stabilize the slope.
WSDOT spokeswoman Meagan Lott said the highway will remain closed until an emergency contractor can be hired to come in and remove any loose material and stabilize the slope.
“We are in the process of getting one hired,” she said. “It may not be until this weekend.”
