COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council meets tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. The council will consider a resolution supporting the city’s grant application to the Port of Walla Walla/Walla Walla County’s nine tenths of a cent economic sales tax fund for Lions Park improvements for $200,000.

The city has been working on the plans for remodeling Lions Park for the last five years. The plan is to include an inclusive play area, ADA accessible fishing dock/pond, a walking trail with fitness equipment, splash pad, upgraded bathrooms and picnic shelter, new multi-use play fields, and farmers market and entertainment space.

The city has received many grants but continues to pursue any and all grants as supply chain and inflation costs continue to rise. The final project could run over $5 million. The current timeline for the Lions Park project is to wrap up final engineering this fall, bid out the project this winter, begin construction spring 2023 and complete construction fall 2023.

The council will also consider bringing back the vacant property registration and including a maintenance requirement in the proposed code chapter which will provide the public with easily identifiable requirements for vacant properties. With registration, the city can easily identify and contact the owner or other responsible party with any concerns regarding their property, including presence of trespassers or criminal activity.

The meeting will be in council chambers of College Place City Hall. It is also accessible via the city’s YouTube channel or via Zoom. The pass code is 891 2714 2385.
