PENDLETON – Mayor John Turner said the city is working with developers for hundreds of acres of land on the southeast side of Pendleton. The owners of the Rees and Goad properties want to develop it and the city is helping with the infrastructure.
Turner said the request for funding won’t stop with the grant that was recently awarded by the federal government.
“If the federal dollars come through, we’ll have about $3 million to spend on that workforce housing road,” he said. “We think the cost of that road is probably around $8 million, so we’re going to ask the state for $5 million.”
Turner said that once the infrastructure is laid, it will be up to the landowners and their contractors as to how it’s developed, but he said it will be for housing.
“That’s more than a thousand homes that would go in there,” he said. “You could put in some high-density stuff like townhouses or maybe a cottage cluster if you were going to do some affordable stuff. It will be housing – very much-needed housing.”
