PENDLETON – The city of Pendleton is now the owner of the Christian Science building at the corner of South Main Street and Southwest Byers Avenue. Before that could happen the building, which was being donated, had to pass an environmental survey.

City Manager Robb Corbett said that first step was passed and the Pendleton Development Commission approved acceptance of the gift from the Bisnett family. While the building has been used for some special events, it has largely stood vacant for several years.

“The city has taken ownership of that donation,” Corbett said. “We’re now going to proceed with a request for proposals.”

The RFP will query developers on their plans for the building. The proposals will be discussed in a public forum and it’s likely one will be selected to become a reality.

“We’ll be soliciting outside interests who might be interested in locating at that building in hopes of getting that space utilized for some future development,” Corbett said.
