City seeks public works director

COLLEGE PLACE – The city of College Place is looking to hire a public works director due to the retirement of long-time director Paul Hartwig. The deadline to apply for the position is May 9.

The salary for the position is between $103,776 and $116,796. The public works department operates on a budget of almost $9 million. A staff of 12 full-time employees provide services that include water, wastewater, street maintenance, stormwater, park maintenance, fleet maintenance and urban forestry. The department also outsources services that cover garbage and summer youth recreation.

In addition, the public works director coordinates outside franchise utility providers and engineering services. Major capital projects already in the works include a $9.5 million southwest sewer project and a $20 million upgrade to the sewer plant.

The ideal candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, public administration, or a closely related field and four years of increasingly responsible public works administration. At least two years of experience in management and with municipal utilities is also required.
