PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council approved a new caterer for the Pendleton Convention Center and also found the city is saving thousands of dollars thanks to the Oregon Department of Transportation at this week’s meeting.

The savings comes in the area of road repair. Pendleton Public Works has street repair projects under way on a number of local roads, many of which intersect with state highways. Whenever street repair is done, ADA ramps must be included.

“We were going to put the ADA ramps in according to our standards,” Corbett said. “ODOT said, ‘If you do it according to the state standard, the state will pay for it.’”

Corbett said the state has the money set aside, and the city is happy to spend it.

Also under new business, Pendleton Catering LLC owned by Missy Fairbank will take over catering services for the Pendleton Convention Center. Catering was previously supplied by CG Catering of Kennewick.

“She’s a local contractor, a local vendor which we believe is going to provide better service to our customers,” Corbett said of Fairbank. “I want to emphasize how much we appreciated the relationship that we had with CG Catering. It just was a little bit challenging for them, being 60 miles away.”
