WALLOWA – The City of Wallowa announced yesterday that it will be implementing usage-based billing for city water usage as early as May 2026, following the recent installation of new water meters. The city recommends residents check internal plumbing (sinks bathrooms etc.) for leaks that may lead to excessive water usage. The full letter from the city is as follows:

“Dear customers

The new water meters are installed and are reading! We will be implementing usage-based billing, possibly as soon as May. Billing statements will look a bit different as we are using new software. These statements will provide monthly usage for each meter, will include a base fee and may include an overage charge if usage exceeds 10,000 gallons each month.

Now is a good time to double check toilets and faucets for leaks that may lead to excessive consumption. The new meters also offer real time updates when leaks and bursts are detected. We will reach out if we receive an alert associated with your account.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at City Hall 541.886.2422.”
