City of Walla Walla releases 2025 water quality report

WALLA WALLA — The city of Walla Walla has announced that its tap water remains safe and clean, successfully meeting or beating all state health requirements according to the newly released 2025 Water Quality Report.

Most of the city’s water comes from nature. In 2025, 81 percent of the water came from the Mill Creek Watershed, which is a large, protected mountain area where no one lives. The rest of the city’s water is pumped from deep wells hidden underground. To keep this water safe for families to drink, the city treats it with special ultraviolet light and chlorine to kill any invisible germs or bugs.

The city of Walla Walla is also working hard to fix its old, leaky water pipes. Last year, workers replaced 3,773 feet of old water pipes and added 9,350 feet of brand-new pipes. This work helped reduce the city’s underground water leaks down to 11.4 percent, bringing Walla Walla very close to the state’s official goal of 10 percent.

The city regularly tests the water for many different things, including lead and copper, to make sure it stays healthy. The report confirmed that there were absolutely no safety violations last year.
