City of Walla Walla receives safety funding of $466,000

WALLA WALLA, Washington — The City of Walla Walla has been awarded $466,000 of federal funding through the Washington State Department of Transportation’s 2018 City Safety Program.

This will include both new Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) and enhancements to existing RRFB locations with improved street lighting, signage, striping, sidewalks and sidewalk ramps, and in some locations curb extensions or bulb-outs.

Most construction activities will occur in 2021 due to federal regulations for right-of-way acquisition.

Safety improvements are planned at the following intersections:

  • Poplar Street at Avery Street
  • Poplar Street at 12th Avenue
  • Poplar Street at Seventh Avenue
  • Poplar Street at Sixth Avenue
  • Second Avenue at Morton Street
  • Wilbur Avenue at Hobson Street
  • Alder Street at Bridge Street
