SUMPTER — The Sumpter Drinking Water utility, facing a 17% surge in operating costs over the past few years, has made the decision to implement a 5% rate increase on all water services. The resolution was passed during the October 10, 2023, city council meeting and it took effect in November.
The city council voted in favor of the rate adjustment to ensure the continued delivery of water services to the community. The increase aims to offset the rising operational expenses incurred by the utility.
Customers are advised that the city’s billing system is currently undergoing updates to reflect the new rates accurately. The revised charges will be visible on monthly statements beginning this month.
The new water rates, categorized by service type, are as follows:

Water Service – Church: $46.73
Water Service – Commercial – High (restaurants, taverns, laundromats): $60.38
Water Service – Commercial – Low (commercial low, RV, RV – Winter): $48.83
