City of La Grande reports fraudulent website impersonating official city page

LA GRANDE – (Release from the City of La Grande) The City of La Grande has been made aware of a fraudulent website impersonating the City and using City contact information, including our address and phone number, to appear legitimate.
This scam has already resulted in community members being misled and contacting our Building Department regarding purchases and orders that are not associated with the City in any way.
What you need to know:
- The City of La Grande does not sell products online.
- We will never ask for payments or transactions through unofficial websites.
- If something seems unusual, please pause and verify before taking action.
What we’re doing:
- Reporting the fraudulent site to federal agencies and domain registrars Working with partners to have the site taken down
- Coordinating additional steps to protect the public
What you can do:
- Do not engage with suspicious websites claiming to represent the City
- Verify information through official City channels:
- www.cityoflagrande.org
- Call City Hall directly if unsure
- Share this message to help protect others in our community
