ELGIN — The City of Elgin is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to help fund much-needed street improvements across the city. The total project cost is estimated between $300,000 and $350,000.

The project will cover approximately 18 blocks of roadway, including:

  • Birch Street from 50 feet east of OR-82 to 5th Street
  • S 7th Street from Cedar Street to Alder Street
  • S 12th Street from 150 feet south of OR-204 to Cedar Street & the dead end of S 12th Street
  • Carolyn Terrace from N 13th Avenue to N 16th Avenue
  • Baltimore Street from N 10th Avenue to N 17th Avenue

The improvements will include grinding and reshaping the roadway edges, restoring the crown, and overlaying the surface with 2 inches of compacted asphalt mat, ensuring a longer-lasting and smoother driving surface for residents.

Mayor James Johnson emphasized the importance of this investment in Elginโ€™s infrastructure:

โ€œThis grant represents a significant step forward in maintaining and improving our city streets. We are deeply grateful for the funding support from ODOT, and I want to give special recognition to our Public Works Director, Tyler. His dedication and hard work made this project possible, and our community will benefit for years to come.โ€

The City of Elgin also reaffirms its commitment to accessibility. As required by federal law, all improvements will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Construction is expected to begin during the upcoming season, with more details to be shared as the timeline is finalized.
