City of Cove offering student city councilor scholarship for local high schoolers

COVE – Earlier this month, the City of Cove announced a unique scholarship and learning opportunity for local high school students. A cove high school junior or senior can apply to serve as a Student City Council Member for the 2026-2027 school year.

This is a unique opportunity for local students to learn about their city government and municipal operations firsthand. Those that complete a term as an appointed student city council member will also receive a $2,500 scholarship for their future education or vocational use. Applications can be picked up from the Cove Highschool Guidance Counselor or at city Hall. Applications are due by Sunday, May 31, 2026. 

The full announcement from the City of Cove is as follows:

“The City of Cove is pleased to announce an opportunity for a local high school Junior or Senior to serve as an appointed Student City Council Member for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

This role allows one student to learn firsthand how a small rural city operates, attend City Council meetings and gain valuable insight into local leadership and civic engagement. The selected student will be required to attend at least eight (8) City Council meetings during their term September through May. 

Upon successful completion of the term, the student will receive a $2,500 scholarship to be used for education, training, or other activities that support their future goals and personal development.

Applications must be submitted by May 31, 2026.

Application forms are available from the guidance counselor at Cove H.S. or at Cove City Hall.”
