HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council has voted to name the new street in South Hermiston Industrial Park East Cook Avenue. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said it’s a fitting tribute to brothers Ivan and Vernon Cook.

“They’ve both been very good, strong partners with us over the past number of decades to help stimulate economic development and economic growth,” Morgan said.

The land for the Walmart Distribution Center was owned by Vernon Cook. Ivan Cook owned the land that became the home for Pioneer Seed, and those are just two examples.

“They are good private sector property owners that have just been continuing to farm the land over many, many years but allowing the city the opportunity to market and advertise and push that property for industrial development as prospects come along,” Morgan said.
