City has a funding wish list

HERMISTON – Hermiston has several projects it plans to ask the 2023 Oregon Legislature to fund. One of them is a personal favorite of Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan. It’s the Gettman Road/Railway Alternative Transportation Enhancement, which would provide a second east-west route through Hermiston on the south side.
“The GRATE project opens up a completely new connection point to get folks between two state highways and hopefully clear up some of the congestion that we have around the high school,” Morgan said.
Morgan says the city has several other funding proposals to put to the legislators, because you never know what the state lawmakers will choose as a hot button issue.
“When you go into legislative sessions, you have to have several potential projects lined up in case what you’re working on is something that everyone’s talking about, and you never know what that’s going to be,” he said. The projects include an indoor equestrian facility for the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center and an indoor pool at the Hermiston Family Aquatic Center.
