HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council will check out the new city hall on a tour at 6 p.m. today, prior to the council’s regular meeting at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to join the council members to walk through the new building. The city is not able to stream the tour, so it will not be available online.

The regular meeting will be held after the tour at the Hermiston Community Center on Highway 395. During that meeting, the council will hold an executive session to discuss the performance of City Manager Byron Smith, which they do annually.

After the executive session, the council will reconvene and consider a proposal to extend Smith’s contract to Aug. 24, 2024. The only change mentioned in the resolution accompanying the agenda will be to increase the payment he receives for using a personal vehicle for work purposes from $350 a month to $450 a month.

The council will also consider an intergovernmental agreement with the city of Echo for internet technology services. The city is developing its own IT department and has signed similar agreements with other municipalities and organizations including Morrow County. The agreement with Echo is slightly different, as the services will be provided on an as-needed basis. Therefore the hourly rate for those services will be billed at $150 instead of the $120 billed to customers with a set number of service hours.

The regular meeting will be streamed on the city’s YouTube channel. It is also available via Zoom. Instructions on how to connect are on the agenda posted on the city’s website.
